Before we get into the details about our newest frame, the Ocean, let's take a trip back to when 9FIVE first started. In 2009, we released our first line of eyewear, which consisted of four frames, one of those frames was called the Cult Classics. At the time, we were operating on a zero budget. We used one of our cameras we bought for school to take our own product shots with and had to muscle our way through figuring out how to sell our goods online, which was solely through a makeshift Paypal site. Here's a screenshot of our actual webpage. Not too bad!
After a year having the Cult Classics in our line, we brought on professional skateboarder, Josh Kalis, to our team and he loved the Cult Classics. So, we flipped the Cult Classics a bit, redesigned them and re-released them as the KLS. We felt like there was still room in our line for a wayfarer with a twist, which is where the Cults came in. Borrowing some basic shapes from its predecessor, the Cults were a clean, simple, all acetate frame, that would come to live under 9FIVE's roof until 2016.
After a hiatus, we revisited the Cults with fresh eyes and decided that they didn't quite match the 9FIVE aesthetic any more. We went back to the drawing board, tweaked them a little here and there until we felt like we had a solid design that would sit well within our eyewear line of 2017. We introduced the Atlas frame in the summer of 2017, and they were welcomed with open arms.
The Atlas' did wonderfully for a few years. But, we were running into issues with the arm design. To be totally transparent, the hinge design was flawed. They were way too easy to bend and even break if the user wasn't careful with them. That's definitely not what we want in our products. So, we decided to cancel the Atlas' and once again, go back to the R&D phase.
Which catches us up to today. We are pleased to release the Ocean. We've taken what we've learned over the course of the last 12 years, and have applied it to the Ocean frame. They have the same arm design concept as our Locks frame, which are incredibly strong. Like all 9FIVE frames, they come with 24k gold plated stainless steel, Italian handmade acetate, and several options for lenses. We've got it right with these frames. Check them out today and thanks for all of your support over the years.
We decided to combine two of our best selling colorways, Black/Gold and Crystal, to create one timeless design. Our new Black Ice Collection is now available in three of our classic silhouettes, One, 21, and Caps. Each pair from this collection comes with our signature Crystal Clear acetate frame, paired with Jet Black acetate arms, and gold plated stainless steel accents. As always, all of our sunglasses come with optional CR-39, Polarized, or Clear Lens (prescription option also available).
It's hard to believe that after nearly 12 years of being in the eyewear game, we've never made a rose gold frame. But, here we are in 2021, and now we have a whole collection of rose gold models. We decided to make a beautiful monochromatic colorway featuring rose gold plated stainless steel, rose gold acetate, and a matching rosy gradient lens set. Now available in the Lawrence, 40, Clarity, and St. James. Check them all out here 👇
Introducing the Cross to our family. With the Cross, we are keeping the ball rolling with our vintage inspired eyewear line. Taking design cues from early 90's hip hop aesthetic, the Cross keeps on track with the likes of our St. James, Legacy, and St. Michael frames. Like all 9FIVE frames, the Cross is constructed using Italian handmade acetate, 24k gold plated stainless steel, and has several options for lens variations. They are now available in our new Rose Gold Collection and our timeless Black & Gold colorway in tinted, clear, and gradient lens options. Take a closer look at them today!
After years of requests, we've finally pulled the trigger. We've taken four of our best selling frames, and have increased their size by almost ten percent. That might not seem like a lot, but in eyewear, even the smallest incremental changes, can make all the difference. We decided to use our Caps model, which is our most beloved oversized frame, and applied its measurements to our new 5050 XL, 24 XL, Belmont XL, and Kingpin XL frames. Be sure to check out our Greens LX (also has similar sizing to Caps) as an additional choice for anyone looking for bigger sunglasses.
Introducing our brand new Limited Edition Red Eye Collection! This collection features 24k gold plated stainless steel, vibrant transparent red acetate, and bold red lenses. We chose a few of our favorite frames to showcase this collection, which includes the 40, 50-50 Flip, Clarity, and St. James Bolt.
Nolan Cooley began obsessively creating repetitive pattern art when he was Six years old. Now 12, he's amassed a huge collection of work on everything from paper and canvases, to surfboards and skate decks.
9five Eyewear (9FIVE.com) teamed up with Nolan for #AutismAwareness Month to combine two of his passions, art and skateboarding, into this Nolan Cooley signature deck. All proceeds will go to Nolan and his charity of choice, The A.skate Foundation, which provides occupational therapy through skateboarding for children with Autism.
