Before we get into the details about our newest frame, the Ocean, let's take a trip back to when 9FIVE first started. In 2009, we released our first line of eyewear, which consisted of four frames, one of those frames was called the Cult Classics. At the time, we were operating on a zero budget. We used one of our cameras we bought for school to take our own product shots with and had to muscle our way through figuring out how to sell our goods online, which was solely through a makeshift Paypal site. Here's a screenshot of our actual webpage. Not too bad!

After a year having the Cult Classics in our line, we brought on professional skateboarder, Josh Kalis, to our team and he loved the Cult Classics. So, we flipped the Cult Classics a bit, redesigned them and re-released them as the KLS. We felt like there was still room in our line for a wayfarer with a twist, which is where the Cults came in. Borrowing some basic shapes from its predecessor, the Cults were a clean, simple, all acetate frame, that would come to live under 9FIVE's roof until 2016.

After a hiatus, we revisited the Cults with fresh eyes and decided that they didn't quite match the 9FIVE aesthetic any more. We went back to the drawing board, tweaked them a little here and there until we felt like we had a solid design that would sit well within our eyewear line of 2017. We introduced the Atlas frame in the summer of 2017, and they were welcomed with open arms.

The Atlas' did wonderfully for a few years. But, we were running into issues with the arm design. To be totally transparent, the hinge design was flawed. They were way too easy to bend and even break if the user wasn't careful with them. That's definitely not what we want in our products. So, we decided to cancel the Atlas' and once again, go back to the R&D phase.

Which catches us up to today. We are pleased to release the Ocean. We've taken what we've learned over the course of the last 12 years, and have applied it to the Ocean frame. They have the same arm design concept as our Locks frame, which are incredibly strong. Like all 9FIVE frames, they come with 24k gold plated stainless steel, Italian handmade acetate, and several options for lenses. We've got it right with these frames. Check them out today and thanks for all of your support over the years.
